December 2017 Circle Fest

Thank you to The Music Settlement for hosting Caring Cubs during University Circle’s CircleFest! Lots of new people learned about our organization, made cards, and “mailed” them to other Caring People in our community (Librarians, Police, Firemen, Doctors, Seniors, and Veterans).

November 2017 Metroparks Trail Ambassador Recognition

It was a busy Saturday for Caring Cubs! While some of our board members ran the service project at Tri-C, others volunteered at the Zoo! Caring Cubs has held many service projects at various MetroPark locations over the years so our board was delighted and honored to help at the recognition breakfast for all the volunteer Trail Ambassadors in the Cleveland MetroPark system. It was fitting to have our young volunteer cubs help recognize the large group of mostly retired volunteer adults for the work they do to keep our parks safe!

November 2017 Tri-C Service Project

Over 100 enthusiastic volunteers joined Caring Cubs at Cuyahoga Community College western campus to volunteer and give back to their community! Our families collected 362 books to donate to the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS). DCFS has a library of books available to anyone who visits their office and the children are encouraged to take home any book they enjoy. Caring Cubs then decorated 210 holiday cards to support the American Red Cross of Greater Cleveland and their Holiday Mail for Heroes program. The cards will be delivered to veterans and military families in our community. Our cubs also made and decorated 154 musical shakers for the Educators of Today and Tomorrow (ETT) to use when they work with inner city children. ETT club members advocate for keeping music in the school curriculum and demonstrate that commitment by teaching appropriate songs, chants, rhythms, and games that the children can actively engage in to enhance their learning. Caring Cubs is so appreciative of our ongoing partnership with the Educators of Today and Tomorrow (ETT) student club at Cuyahoga Community College Western campus. ETT students as well as additional education majors volunteered at the event and worked directly with Caring Cubs to complete the projects. Thank you to the Tri-C Early Childhood Education Program for hosting Caring Cubs for the fifth year! We are so proud of everything that our families accomplished! Hundreds of local children and veterans will benefit from the projects we completed!

October 2017 Operation Warm Up at NCJW/Cleveland

Thank you so much to Becky Brouman from the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland for hosting our Caring Cubs! We learned about donating both new and used items and how they make the recipient feel. Our families got to sort incoming donations and learn about the process. Our cubs also made 38 fleece scarfs and attached homemade gift tags to make their donations feel like a gift of friendship. We collected a total of 18 packages of new underwear and socks to donate to Operation Warm-Up (a winter clothing collection that is distributed at Cleveland’s Homeless Stand Down).

October 2017 Arden Courts

Caring Cubs visited both the Westlake and Chagrin Falls locations of Arden Courts to make some adorable (and creative) Halloween crafts! Our cubs had such wonderful interaction with the residents and together they created over 100 decorations, which we distributed throughout each home. We were also treated to cookies and juice, which was a welcome surprise! Thanks to Arden Courts for being such kind hosts once again.

September 2017 Christopher’s Promise

Caring Cubs worked to support the the promise our friend Lauren made to Christopher years ago – that all kids, regardless of physical limitations, can enjoy riding a bike. We met up with Lauren, founder of the non-profit Christopher’s Promise, and Christopher himself, along with his family, to create special stationary for bike recipients to use when thanking sponsors that help build their adaptive bike. These cards will go to stakeholders in Ohio, Oregon, California, and beyond. Find out more about Lauren and Christopher at

August 2017 School Supply Drive

We had a great turnout at our pop-up project at Ben & Jerry’s! Caring Cubs families amassed a large amount of supplies for Cleveland Kids In Need, a program of Shoes & Clothes for Kids. The grand totals: 230 folders, 2 binders, 1 eraser pack, 82 pens, 12 glue sticks, 3 scissors, 96 crayon boxes, 35 construction paper packs, 52 composition notebooks, and 149 spiral notebooks.

Families also worked together to make 53 friendship messages that will be included in back-to-school packages distributed by Shoes & Clothes for Kids.

There was a whole lot of ice cream eaten, too! Thanks to Ben & Jerry’s of University Heights for hosting us and for your generous donation from the proceeds this afternoon. We are so grateful!

June 2017 Rescue Village

Caring Cubs had an amazing afternoon at Rescue Village! We received a tour of the facility, which included a barn and indoor facilities for companion animals. The kids got to see chickens, roosters, pigs, and sheep, as well as lots of sweet dogs and cats! We made 15 blankets for the shelter’s residents and also worked on items for our “grow” theme for our Appletree window display in July!

June 2017 Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter

Our Caring Cubs made 20 blankets and 25 toys for the dogs at the shelter. Jose provided education on what the shelter does and gave us a tour. The high point was being able to feed the dogs treats! Thank you to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter for hosting us.
